Every legend begins somewhere, and even the gentlest heroes often have beginnings forged in fire. The Dream Dragon was no exception. Long before he became the soft and friendly protector that children know and love today, he was a mighty force of light and courage. He was born in the heart of Dreamland, a realm beyond time and distance where imagination takes shape and the dreams of every child find their voice. From the moment of his creation, he was chosen to guard that sacred world, to stand against the shadows that sought to twist dreams into nightmares and to protect the innocence of children everywhere.

In the earliest days, Dreamland was a realm both wondrous and wild. Its skies shimmered with the glow of endless dreams, but peace was often threatened by the King of Nightmares and his army of Shadow Warriors. These dark forces crept through the cracks of imagination, spreading fear and confusion wherever they went. To defend the realm, the Dream Dragon gathered a band of brave and noble animal spirits, a fellowship destined to become known as The Knights of Catcher’s Table.

Their meeting place was a magnificent round table unlike any other, woven from the strands of an ancient dream catcher. Each thread represented a promise, to guard the dreams of children and to stand united against the darkness. Around that table gathered a remarkable group of spirit animals, each chosen for their courage, loyalty, and heart. Among them were Sir Arty the Good Knight, whose wisdom guided them all; Sir Dancealot, lighthearted and brave; Lady Gladihad, formal and fearless; Sir Liono, proud and strong; and Sir Bedocheer, whose laughter could shatter fear itself. Alongside them stood Sir Leobearis, Sir Effalant, Lady Safer, Sir Allynear, Sir Dangnabit the Gray, Sir Limeric, Lady Brownie, Sir Grizzled, Sir Polaris, and Sir Bubbarion Hypottimus. Together, with the Dream Dragon and the other Dream Dragons from around the world, they became the protectors of Dreamland and the unseen defenders of sleeping children.

But the Knights were not the only ones who stood against the darkness. Working beside them were the Dream Makers and Dream Fairies, gentle yet powerful beings who shaped and guided the dreams of boys and girls throughout the world. Though they were not warriors in the traditional sense, their light, laughter, and love strengthened the Dream Dragon and his Knights in every battle. Where fear sought to spread, the Dream Makers and Fairies filled the air with warmth and hope, weaving strands of courage that made Dreamland whole again. Their presence reminded all who fought that even in times of darkness, there would always be light to hold onto.

 

Over the centuries, the legend of the Dream Dragon and his allies evolved. What began as tales of courage and battle softened into bedtime stories of comfort and care. The fierce Guardian of Dreams became a symbol of friendship and love, and the Knights transformed into the beloved stuffed companions that rest beside children each night. Yet within every plush toy, within every flicker of imagination, their spirits remain alive.

​The Dream Dragon still carries the heart of a warrior and the soul of a guardian. His flame now glows with gentleness instead of fire, but its warmth and brightness still protects against every shadow. The Dream Makers and Dream Fairies continue their sacred work, filling Dreamland with light while the Knights stand ready to defend children in the real world.

​

And so, what began as legend has become love. The Dream Dragon’s story reminds us that even the smallest beginnings can give rise to heroes, and that courage, kindness, and imagination together can keep the darkness away. The legend continues each night, one dream at a time, wherever a child closes their eyes and believes that they are safe.
